Milwaukee Wisconsin, Brown Trout Fishing
There is no place in the world that holds a better population of trophy brown trout than the Milwaukee Harbor, but you can also find a fishable population of browns along the entire stretch of Lake Michigan from the Illinois border to Sheboygan Wisconsin.
For the most part there is a year round fishery for trophy brown trout, but I generally only run trips for browns from October through February. During these times it’s not uncommon to land between 20 and 50 brown trout while fishing out of the boat that will range in size from 2-40lbs! Of course, 40lbers are very rare, but the opportunity does exist in the Milwaukee harbor to catch a world record class fish. The average size brown trout is typically between 8 and 15lbs, but 20lb class fish are landed by my clients on a weekly basis.
Open Water and Ice Fishing For Monster Brown Trout in Milwaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Port Washington, and Kenosha Wisconsin
During the coldest months of the year I am able to run trips out of my boat, but this is when I will predominantly be fishing through the ice for trophy browns and steelhead with automatic fisherman. Unlike the boat, the browns and steelhead that we catch through the ice are typically a better average size and an absolute blast to fight on a 33” rod and reel, rather than on tip-ups.
Fish location and preferred bait depends on the season, but we consistently catch fish on spawn, cranks, jigging spoons/soft plastics or trolling. 90% of the fishing I do for trout is with spinning rods, but every once in awhile I will troll if the fishing is tough.
Should you bring along your own tackle, 7’-8’ med light-med power rods spooled with 10-20lb line are ideal.
Come find see us in Milwaukee Wisconsin for the best brown trout fishing in the world, you will not be disappointed. My passion for the sport and customer relations go far beyond any other guide in the business. In the winter when the boat fishing is at its best for giant brown trout and steelhead on light tackle I am able to break through 3 inches of ice to get to my spots. I have been fishing out of my boat around ice chunks (pack ice) for over 5 years and I have never had any problems. I never push my boat or gear anywhere close to the breaking point and if there's unsafe conditions I wont go out in the boat in January and February. I run a 20' fiberglass boat so you can feel safe going through 3" of ice to catch your biggest brown trout from the Milwaukee Harbor.
Whether your fishing from the ice or boat, the Milwaukee harbor, Racine harbor and Sheboygan harbor will offer you the possibility of catching multiple 20lb brown trout in the same day!
